It`s been clear for some time that housing supply is not keeping up with demand. In 2007, the Government set a target of increasing the supply of housing to 240,000 by 2016. We`re nowhere near that target. The closest was in 2007, when the UK built 219,000 new houses. In 2015, that figure was just 141,000.

Established since 1902, Thorpe Whyman and Briggs has seen massive changes in the style and scale of housing generally. Close to my office, a family 5 bedroomed house we designed in 1957, has just been demolished to make way for a £multi-million house that must be close to 6,000 sq.ft in size, and yet only two people will live there when it`s complete. This just reflects the level of change in our residential ambitions over the last few years

We have designed apartment blocks for both the lavish and the economies of scale and function. We have a history in residential design. However, that doesn`t just apply to new housing stock. We can and have refurbished and adapted many old properties in order to give them a new lease of life in the residential market. Mill buildings and Banks have become the focus of major investment in order for them to become dream homes.
